Dressing For a Presentation: Ladies' Guidelines

It’s often a mixed feeling when you are selected to represent your department or company at a corporate event where you will be presenting to the audience especially when it is your first time. For some ladies, immediately they are informed about the presentation, the first question that comes to mind is “What will I wear?"

Getting your presentation materials ready before the day is important, so also is getting the perfect look. So while you are battling with PowerPoint, I will help you with a guide in choosing the right look. Here are my guidelines:

 1. Dress: When choosing a dress for a presentation, the following should be taken into consideration:
* The length of the dress: If you are going with a gown or a skirt, a knee length gown or skirt is just ideal. For a pair of trousers, it should not be sweeping the floor and also, not revealing your legs.
 * The fitness of the outfit: The outfit should be your perfect size. Not too loose or too tight. You must be comfortable in it to move around, lift your hands and even bend down without stress or giving your audience a negative impression about your dress sense.

 2.  Shoe: The comfort ability of the shoe you are wearing will affect your carriage and also your presentation. Ladies please, choose a pair of shoes with the right heels that allows you move around easily and comfortably.

3.  Hair: Your hair should be neatly done and packed. Your hair should not be dangling on your face that you get distracted every 30 seconds trying to put it in place. Little distractions can cause divided attention among your audience. You don't want that, do you?

4.  Makeup: Your makeup should be as light as possible. Moderation is key.

 5.  Jewelry: Your jewelry should be cool and appropriate for your dress. Your look should not be like that of a traditional priest who is about to offer sacrifice to the gods.

Don'ts
* Do not wear sleeveless dress especially if you have stretch marks on your arms and unshaved armpits. Please, if you must wear a sleeveless dress, put a jacket on it.

 * Ladies do not wear flat shoes to a presentation unless you are pregnant or very old.

* No color blocking. Please, the colors should blend. Check out the color family and learn how to combine colors.

* No wearing of dangling earrings and bangles. You are not a sound producer.

* Do not choke your audience with your perfume. Some persons are allergic to the smell of heavy perfumes.

Before the day of presentation, make sure your outfit is in good condition and still fits you well. Ladies who have issues with their weight will understand this point better.

Always have a "plan B" outfit. You do not want a stain from coffee or makeup put you in a state of disarray before you leave home.

Finally, do not forget to wear a SMILE!!!
