What is integrity?

Integrity is the quality an individual possess that that makes he or she to be referred to as been honest and trustworthy.  A person is said to have integrity when he/she upholds high moral principles at every given situation not minding if he/she is been watched or not.
Integrity means standing for what is right and keeping one’s word or promise. An individual is said to be a ‘’person of integrity’’ if his/her ways are transparent and dependable.

In the workplace, integrity is an essential attribute every individual that wants to go far in his career must possess. (Read other ways you can grow in your career). Maintaining a good relationship with your employer and co-workers requires that you have integrity. The people in your workplace should know what you stand for. You are expected to be a model or an ambassador of the company and treat all around you fairly. Your Integrity in the workplace can be evaluated on the basis of how you use your company’s resources (time, material, information and human) to the company’s benefits.  You can show your integrity at your work by:

 1.       Representing your company well at any given time or place.

 2.       Be punctual to work.

 3.       Complete every given task.

 4.       Deal honestly with all.

5.       Use company’s resources solely for the company.

Cases where Integrity was displayed at Workplace

 Case Number One:
A lady by the name Josephine Agwu who works as a cleaner at the Murtala Mohammed International airport Lagos was said to have returned the 12 million naira she found while on duty. This was not the first time the lady returned lost items to the airport authority. She was duly recognised and honoured for her integrity.

Case Number Two: Mohammed Ibrahim who is a security guard at one of the branches of United Bank of Africa (UBA) Lagos, found $10,000 outside the bank premise and returned the money. The former chairman of the bank – Tony Elumelu referred to the security guard’s action as an "unparalleled display of integrity at this time the country’s economy is bad".

You too can stand out from the crowd by displaying the right attributes.  Remember that your integrity creates a name and brand for you first, then your company. So be that name that stands for good. A brand that is dependable.
