Job Description
Directs the New-born Screening Program in the performance of
laboratory procedures for the detection of inborn errors of metabolism and
genetic disorders (e.g. PKU,
hypothyroidism, ) and risk assessment in pregnancies (e.g. Chromosomal
abnormalities , Preeclampsia) for Africa program
Assures that all test methods, practices, and personnel are
in compliance with International and Local standards.
Assigns work, develops Standard Operating Procedures, and
establishes priorities and work schedules, and monitors work performed by
subordinates.
Recommends revisions of laboratory policies and procedures
to assure that current, nationally accepted technologies and professional
standards are followed.
Assures that all infants with abnormal screening results
receive follow-up, tracking, and additional testing as needed.
Maintains an active Quality Assurance system which addresses
pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases Of Maternal & Child
health Screening.
Manage and monitor franchising of the laboratory throughout
Africa and ensure compliance to the required standard to all franchisees
Assist in building local capacity to manage similar
laboratory
Requirements
University Degree / equivalent in Medical Technology,
Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Molecular Biology or similar field.
Experience equivalent to 8 years of full time clinical
laboratory work including managing
laboratory using the range of
PerkinElmer’s instrumentation
for maternal and child health screening programme.
English Language - both for writing and oral communication
