Finance & Accounts
Job Purpose
The Head, Finance & Accounts oversees all activities of
the Finance& Accounts department and is involved in the supervision and
management of general accounting activities, analyses, business partnership,
and the maintenance of effective internal controls while ensuring statutory
compliance in all accounting initiatives.
The Head, Finance & Accountsis responsible for the
day-to-day aspects of the business’s accounting and reporting functions. He is
additionally expected to work with other departmental heads in deciding on
complex modelling of the business’s financial approaches that cut across the
entire business.
The Head, Finance & Accounts is accountable for the
financial, administrative, and risk management operations of the business and
for overseeing the development of financial and operational strategies and
metrics as well.
He is also in charge of ongoing development and monitoring
of financial control systems that are designed to preserve business assets,
enabling accurate financial reports and desired results.

Responsibilities
Leadership/Supervisory
Role:
The Head, Finance & Accounts first and foremost plays a
leadership role where he leads both the accounting and finance departments. In
his leadership role, the Head, Finance & Accounts supervises end-of-period
processes and supports the analysis of the periodical business performance,
budgets, and forecasts.
He also leads the accounting department in the establishment
of risk management procedures as well as the update of those procedures. As the
leader of the department, the Head, Finance & Accounts is charged with
motivating, developing, and creating a departmental culture and vision, taking
full responsibility for the success or failure of the quarterly/annual audit
process.
He is also responsible for building talent across the
department and supports continuous improvement initiatives across the
department. He serves as a thought leader within the business and partners with
senior management contributing to general financial management across the
business.
He oversees the business’s transaction processing systems
and implements operational best practices across the accounts and finance
department and the wider business. The Head, Finance & Accounts ensures
that there is credibility in the accounts and finance department by providing
accurate and timely analysis of budgets, forecasts, and financial trends for
access by the entire business.
He also ensures that there are effective internal controls
in place and ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles
as well as legislation and regulations for financial accounting and tax
reporting.
The Head, Finance & Accounts is also charged with
building a culture of integrity and ethics across the business and sets
standards that other departmental leaders can emulate across the business. The
Head, Finance & Accounts leads the department in various financial analyses
inclusive of profitability and costing analyses and directs recommendations
back to the business.
In conjunction with the executive team the Head, Finance
& Accounts leads, prepares, and presents consumer reporting and KPIs for
the business. In this capacity, the Head, Finance & Accounts acts as a
mentor to key accounts and finance department personnel, leading their
training, encouraging their professional growth and readying them for the
succession of his functions in future.
Management/Financial
Management:
The Head, Finance & Accounts manages all processes
relating to budgets and consolidation, financial forecasting, and reporting
conducted across the business. He builds an open and collaborative culture
across the department that ensures transparency and a free flow of information,
leading to accurate financial recording and reporting.
The Head, Finance & Accounts compiles financial reports,
conducts financial information analyses, and presents them to the business’s
stakeholder as well as investors. The Head, Finance & Accounts directly
engages in the preparation of a timely budget, financial forecast, and
analysis, which is used to create the business’s overall strategic and
operational objectives.
Policy Formation:
The Head, Finance
& Accounts also plays a leading role in creating and enhancing financial
policies and procedures across the department. He ensures that there is
consistency in procedures and policies across the department and that these
policies are appropriately set for the achievement of the business’s overall
goals and objectives. In this position, the Head, Finance & Accounts also
leads compliance with the business’s internal corporate framework policies and
finance manuals.
Strategy:
The Head, Finance & Accounts is additionally charged
with the development of the business’s future direction along with the
supporting tactical initiatives. This is done in coordination with the
business’s stakeholder and the business’s executive team, where he offers
insights and counsel relating to growth, strategic planning, and financial
leadership.
The Head, Finance & Accounts is charged with developing
financial and tax strategies as well as the management of budgeting processes
and capital requests. In this capacity, the Head, Finance & Accounts is
also charged with the development of performance measures that are in support
of the business’s financial goals and the business’s overall strategic
direction.
Collaboration and
Support:
The role of the Head, Finance & Accounts is a
collaborative one and in this position he works hand-in hand with the executive
team and stakeholders in strategy formulation for the overall direction of the
business, seeking a full range of business solutions.
He will also work with individual departmental leadership in
providing financial support while ensuring operational compliance with business
and government financial policies and procedures. In this collaboration he also
ensures that best available business processes are integrated throughout the
business in all financial business matters.
The role of the Head, Finance & Accounts is not an
independent role and, as such he collaborates with various internal and
external personnel in the execution of his functions. The Head, Finance &
Accounts will also work with departmental heads across the business in
supporting their financial activities, guiding them through financial process,
and interpreting the progress, implications of financial outcomes.
The Head, Finance &Accounts also collaborates with external partners such as tax accounting firm personnel, auditors, and in all matter regarding auditing and taxation. Documentation & Reporting: The Head, Finance & Accounts also leads the department in the documentation of all financial books and records.
He also prepares reports in reflection of the revenue quarterly/annual processes. He develops reports on all accounting related matters inclusive of taxation matters. These reports accompany pro-active advice and recommendations on the business’s financial approaches from an accounting and taxation perspective.
Financial Analysis:
The Head, Finance & Accounts is also tasked with leading
the departments in the preparation of accounts and conducting quarterly/annual
auditing and the final preparation of accounts. He liaises with external
auditors to drive ad hoc projects that will improve process efficiency.
In this capacity, the Head, Finance & Accounts ensures
that there is a proactive engagement across the department in implementing
audit findings with a view of improving the business’s overall financial
performance.
Research/Knowledge/Opportunity:
The Head, Finance & Accounts takes initiative in
ensuring departmental compliance with tax requirements as well as with accepted
accounting principles. The Head, Finance &Accounts also attends regular
finance forums/meetings both internally and externally in an attempt to gather
useful knowledge and insights that can be applied within the department. The
Head, Finance & Accounts makes recommendations for systems improvements
across the department and oversees the implementation of approved changes
across the department upon approval.
The Head, Finance &Accounts is also responsible for maintaining vast knowledge and awareness, not only in the department, but across the business on financial best practices as well as both internal and external legislation/policies on practices and procedures. He also engages in individual research on business opportunities, keeping in mind their viability, risk to the business, and the business’s objectives.
Other Duties:
The Head, Finance
& Accounts also performs similar duties as he deems fit for the proper
execution of his duties and duties as delegated by the Employer.
Qualification
Education: The
Head, Finance & Accounts must have a degree in Finance or Accounting. The
equivalent of the same in practical experience is also acceptable.
The candidate MUST also be a FULLY chattered accountant and
not one studying
towards this.
Experience: A
candidate for this position must have had at least 5 years of working experience
in a leading accounting position within a fast-paced and dynamic position,
preferably as a Senior Tax Accountant or a Senior Accountant. The candidate
will have had significant, successful, and proven experience leading a financial
accounting department.
The candidate will also have had experience preparing
corporate tax computations as well as experience designing and implementing
process improvements and controls. The candidate will demonstrate experience in
tax management and have an ability to
interpret complex financial information, translating that information into
business planning, processes and risk management.
The candidate must have a demonstrated track-record of
successful leadership in a finance position where he excelled in team building,
implementation, and incorporation of best practices.
The candidate will also have demonstrated experience
managing e-commerce payment solutions as well as the management of various
financial design and implementation systems and procedures that optimize a
business’s financial performance. A suitable candidate will also have
demonstrated systems skills and successful experience implementing robust
financial controls and processes.
Communication Skills:
The candidate must further portray exceptionally good communication skills.
This is especially so for his collaborative role where the clear and concise
conveyance of information to collaborative personnel will determine how
effectively collaborative duties are executed.
He will need superior communication skills in his leadership
position where he will need to convey sensitive information and instructions
down the line, which will determine the effectiveness and efficiency of the
department. The candidate will also need exceptionally good communication
skills in drafting clear, concise, and unambiguous reports and recommendations
for senior leadership.
Ms Office/Software: The candidate must also possess exceptional computer skills and be highly proficient in Ms Excel, Ms Office, Ms Outlook, and PowerPoint, which will be necessary in the creation of financial reports and recommendations. The candidate must additionally be highly proficient in the use of financial software such as software such as Oracle Finances etc.
Interpersonal Skills: The candidate must have a keen eye for detail, works comfortably in a highly collaborative setting, has an ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines, has a confident and outgoing personality, works comfortably with senior business management, has an ability to operate comfortably in a fast-paced and fast-evolving environment, has strong business acumen, is very analytical and procedural, is highly organized, is a self-starter and proactive requiring minimal supervision, and demonstrates an ability to remain calm and composed during times of stress and uncertainty, inspiring the same in his team.
Leadership/People
Skills: The candidate must demonstrate exceptional leadership skills,
having an ability to influence and lead a cross-functional team as well as senior
business leadership. The candidate must additionally be a people person who
forms strong bonds with other people and who inspires trust and confidence in
both his peers, senior, and external partners, enabling the smooth execution ofhis
duties.
