Job Title: Finance Officer

Location: Abuja

As a Finance Officer at Hamu Legal, you will play a pivotal role in managing the financial aspects of the firm, ensuring compliance, and contributing to the overall success of the organization.

 

Responsibilities

Financial Planning and Analysis:

  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure the financial well-being of the firm.
  • Provide strategic financial insights to support decision-making and long-term planning.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Prepare and manage the annual budget in collaboration with department heads.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide regular reports and analysis.

Financial Reporting:

  • Generate accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards.

Cash Flow Management:

  • Monitor cash flow and manage working capital effectively.
  • Implement strategies to optimize cash flow and reduce financial risk.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with local and international financial regulations.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks through effective risk management practices.

Accounting and Bookkeeping:

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable and receivable.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Generate bills and ensure they are reviewed and signed off by the Lawyers.
  • Ensure lawyers are entering their time regularly and hold them accountable to billing deadlines.
  • Communicate with clients regarding accounts receivables.

Tax Management:

  • Coordinate with external tax consultants to ensure accurate and timely filing of tax returns.
  • Stay informed about changes in tax laws and regulations affecting the firm.

Financial Audits:

  • Coordinate annual financial audits and liaise with auditors.
  • Implement audit recommendations to strengthen financial controls.
  • Vendor Management:
  • Manage relationships with financial service providers, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Negotiate favorable terms and conditions for financial transactions.

Team Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate financial strategies into business operations.
  • Provide training and support to staff on financial procedures and policies.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. Professional certification (e.g., ACCA, ICAN) is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a Finance Officer or similar role in a corporate setting, preferably within the legal industry.
  • Strong understanding of financial management principles, accounting standards, and taxation.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in financial software Google workspace and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Knowledge of Nigerian financial regulations and compliance requirements.
