Where you fit in?

You will be part of the New Business Development Team in Shell Energy Nigeria, working closely with other functions to deliver the business.

As Gas-to-Power Business Development Manager, you will be at the forefront of our ambition to develop a gas-fired power portfolio to support the company’s growth objectives; gas-fired power is an essential driver for the development of the industrial base in Nigeria. It is your responsibility to drive the creation of a viable gas-fired power business for Shell by capturing commercial and industrial demand and supply stable electricity to customers.

What’s the role?

The role is key to be responsible for the gas-fired power development for Shell Energy Nigeria. Based on your experience in power plant development (marketing, building, financing, permitting) and in the gas to power value chain. You will develop an intimate relationship with customers, partners (including but not limited to Distribution Companies), regulators and other players to identify, develop and close deals for Shell to grow its power-sales to the Industrial sector.

You will develop the agenda for gas-fired power sales and development to the Industrial sector in Shell Energy Nigeria and drive the growth of the power portfolio, in collaboration with the wider Shell Nigeria organization (including DayStar Power).

The role will allow you to develop new business models and deal types for Shell, and will allow you to work in a highly entrepreneurial environment under a clear mandate to grow.

What we need from you?

We’re keen to hear from individuals with a minimum of 10 years of relevant working experience in sales, business development in the Nigerian gas-to-power market and a Bachelor’s Degree in business, economics, accounting, engineering or equivalent.

  • Experience in power development with understanding and experience in captive and embedded power development (supply, regulation, technical, business development, commercial & other agreements, valuation, finance, and risk management). Previous end-to-end power development experience is a preference.
  • Solid understanding of relevant commercial agreements (e.g. power purchase agreements, transmission agreements, joint development and join venture agreements, gas-supply agreements, O&M, service agreements, etc.).
  • Strong background with experience in power systems and integrated electrical systems.
  • Solid understanding of the natural gas value chain and gas-fired power systems.
  • Commercially savvy in engaging customers, internal and external stakeholders; building strong and trusted networks.
  • Strong business development skills and entrepreneurial capabilities, business development/origination in immature markets.
  • Strong and proven negotiator, trusted partner of commercial counterparties, strong commercial acumen; ability to protect and maximize profit for Shell.
  • Self-starting, analytical, problem solver, able to work with limited guidance.
  • Proven track record as deal maker for opportunities.
  • Experience in dealing with usual complexities of business and investment transactions with many stakeholders in immature markets, including financing.
  • Ability to create value propositions, develop and close deals.
