HealthLearn is a new nonprofit on a mission to save lives at scale with simple, engaging, case-based online learning for health workers based in primary health centers (PHCs) in Nigeria. Job Title: Program Officer


Location: Gombe / Hybrid


Reports to: HealthLearn Partnerships Lead


About the Job

We are looking for a program officer in Gombe, Nigeria to support course dissemination and exploration of the most effective and cost-effective models for achieving high scale, uptake of our courses, and improved clinical practices among PHC workers. This role requires close collaboration and partnership with the state government in Gombe. This consultancy will be for six months, full-time (40 hours per week), with the possibility of transitioning into a permanent position.


General responsibilities:

The successful candidate will manage HealthLearn’s course dissemination in Gombe. These activities will be carried out with some support and advice from a local partner organization.

● Implement targeted facility-level outreach strategies


● Collaborate with partner NGOs and state government to develop and test course models to

improve uptake and impact of HealthLearn courses


● Track time, costs, and results for various dissemination methods


● Advise HealthLearn leadership on effective dissemination strategies


● Serve as HealthLearn’s liaison in Gombe State and other nearby states


Specific activities may include:

● Collaborate with the state primary health care development agency on course dissemination and quality of care improvement activities (meet with officials, obtain approvals, etc.)


● Conduct calls with facility focal persons to explain and promote the course


● Organize in-person onboarding sessions for focal persons


● Create and manage WhatsApp groups for course discussions and updates


● Visit high-impact facilities for direct introductions to the course


● Engage with professional associations and influential health worker groups


● Partner with existing MCH programs to integrate the course into their initiatives


● Design and implement solutions for reaching more health workers in Gombe State


● Encourage health workers and leaders to adopt the evidence-based practices learned


● Represent HealthLearn in state-level activities and meetings


Traits and background of the successful applicant:


● Holds a relevant bachelor's degree, nursing degree, or CHEW/CHO diploma


● Has 3-5 years of experience in the health sector, preferably in government or NGOs


● Strong organizational and computer skills (Google Docs, Sheets)


● Comfortable working remotely with supervision from leadership and local partner


● Resident in Gombe State and able to arrange own transportation within and around Gombe


● Represents HealthLearn well in meetings at SPHCDA and similar agencies


● Good communication and interpersonal relationship skills
